Kitchen Cabinet Measuring Guide

Use this guide before ordering cabinets, cabinet doors, panels, fillers or trim. Accurate measurements help avoid delays, incorrect cabinet sizes and missing finishing pieces.

What to Measure

  • Wall-to-wall width for each kitchen run
  • Ceiling height
  • Window and door locations
  • Appliance widths, heights and depths
  • Sink location and plumbing position
  • Electrical, gas and vent locations
  • Bulkheads, corners, columns and obstacles

Cabinet Measurements

For each cabinet, confirm width, height and depth. For cabinet doors, measure each door individually and confirm hinge side where required.

Photos Help

Send clear photos of each wall, appliance area, plumbing wall and any corners. A simple sketch with measurements is usually enough for a cabinet-list review.

MEASURE ONCE · DESIGN WITH CONFIDENCE

Measure the walls. We’ll handle the cabinet math.

You do not need cabinet codes. Record the full wall lengths, appliance widths and where doors/windows interrupt each wall.
AWall A

Straight Kitchen

Measure the full cabinet wall from end to end.

Enter: Wall A

L-Shaped Kitchen

Measure each wall from the shared inside corner outward.

Enter: Wall A + Wall B
ABCTwo inside corners

U-Shaped Kitchen

Measure left return, back wall and right return as three full wall lengths.

Record these measurements

  1. Full wall lengthsMeasure finished wall to finished wall or wall end.
  2. Doors and windowsRecord width and distance from the wall start/corner.
  3. AppliancesRecord refrigerator, range and dishwasher widths. Measure the actual unit when possible.
  4. Ceiling & bulkheadsFloor-to-ceiling height plus any soffit/bulkhead depth and height.
  5. Sink/plumbingMark the approximate sink centre and plumbing wall.
